An(other) Typography / 56 pages / 180 x 270 mm / Typography, analyzed from a sociolinguistic point of view, can be considered analogous to a Standard dialect. According to Peter Trudgill and much of William Labov's studies, standard dialects are used most by educated individuals with the high social standing. Within any language, there are many ‘styles’ to this standard way of communicating. There are also connections to be made with regards to the production of a piece of written language and the producers’ social positioning. Using Savannah, Georgia as an immediate source to explore these notions, I acquired examples of this across the city, which was compiled into a book containing the visual culmination of that research both documenting and exhibiting the city’s written language and its political, economic and social implications.
